About us

Larkspur is a garden site for people who want a calmer garden: easy perennials, shrubs and vines, a few good vegetables, and the small jobs that keep them thriving season by season.

Who writes it

Our guides are written in the voice of Peg, who has kept flower beds in southeast Ohio, zone 6b, for more than forty years and has written down every planting in a notebook since 1983. Her beds are one place where advice gets tried, not the only place it is checked: see how we test our advice.

• Plain guides to plants that come back every year, with the timing, spacing and light they need.
• A month-by-month list of what the garden wants doing now.
• A planting calendar that works from your hardiness zone or your own frost dates.
• Plants grouped by what you grow and by series such as the forgotten and rare.

How we make a living

The site is free to read and has no display advertising. We plan to sell our own digital garden planners and to work with small makers whose products we would point a friend to. Anything paid is marked where you see it: advertise with us, affiliate disclosure.
