Privacy policy
This page says what Larkspur collects about you when you read the site, and why. In short: very little, and no cookies for tracking.
What we collect
- Reading counts. After you have an article open for a few seconds, the page sends one anonymous signal so we can show how many people read it. We store a scrambled code made from your address and browser and a secret that changes every day, never the address itself, and we delete the codes after two days. No cookie is set for this.
- Server logs. Our hosting and the network in front of it (a content delivery network) keep ordinary technical logs, such as address, page and time, to run the site and block abuse.
- Analytics. We use Umami, which runs on our own server, to count page views and see where readers come from. It records the page, the site you came from, your browser and device type and your country. It sets no cookie and does not store your address. It respects Do Not Track, and you can switch it off at any time in Privacy settings, the link in the footer.
- Search. The words you type into the article search are used to find results. To rank them well, they may be sent to an AI language service through a provider we use. Do not type personal details into the search box.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe, we keep your email address and when you signed up, only to send the newsletter. You can unsubscribe in any email.
- Messages. If you write to us, we keep the message to answer it.
What we do not do
We do not use advertising cookies, we do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell your information. If we add other analytics, a chat or advertising later, we will update this page first, list the service in Privacy settings, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Your choices
Privacy settings in the footer lets you turn analytics off. You can also ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask us to stop sending the newsletter, by writing through the contact page.
Do not sell or share my personal information
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context advertising. There is nothing to opt out of; if that ever changes, this section will say how to opt out before it does.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
When we change this page we change its text here. For anything that affects you directly, such as a new kind of cookie, we will say so on the site.
